Solar panel cost factors
- Prices for solar panels will vary depending on which installation company you choose to use, so be sure to shop around and get a range of quotes
- If you are looking to save money do bear in mind that most domestic systems cost around £3,000 per kWp (Kilowatt peak), but smaller PV systems cost proportionately more
- You could make money by getting government payments for the heat you generate from a solar water heating system, the scheme is called the Renewable Heat Incentive
- A PV solar system can also make up to £670 per year if eligible for the Feed-In Tariff scheme
What about solar panel maintenance costs?
Solar panels don’t require much maintenance, just make sure they are kept clean and aren’t overshadowed by trees. PV solar panels should last at least 25 years; however you will need to replace the inverter at some point, which will cost around £1,000. Most solar water heating systems have a 5-10 year warranty and don’t require much maintenance. However, it is advisable to have an accredited installer give them a quick check every three to five years.
