Solar thermal panels utilise the sun’s energy to warm your household’s water supply; a boiler or immersion heater can be used to increase the heat of the water, or to provide hot water when solar energy is unavailable (this comes in handy in the winter months). To help with the costs, there are several types of solar thermal panel grants available in the UK:
1. Renewable Heat Premium Payment Scheme: the first phase of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) offers grants of £300 towards the cost of installing solar thermal panels in a domestic property. The Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme is open between the1st August 2011 to 31st March 2012. Get more information about the Renewable Heat Premium Payment Scheme.
2. Renewable Heat Incentive tariff payments: in October 2012 household solar thermal installations (carried out since July 2009) will move on to the RHI tariff and make money. Under the RHI, your solar thermal panels could earn you up to £400 a year. Get more information about the RHI.

The renewable energy is good for the environment and solar panels in St Albans is also highly in demand. This investment is more sensible rather than others.
