> Job description: Rear garden that slopes upward away from the house recently made into three 'stepped' level terraces each approx 7 x 4m. The builder lay turf and I don't think any grit was added to the top soil . The ground is heavy clay. Water is accumulating on all terraces and pooling to the righthand side on all three. The grass a nd ground throughout remains wet even after a number of sunny days and the lawn is impossible to mow. There is a soakaway to the right of the lower terrace and I think this is connected to the main drain. Having read advise on www.pavingexpert.com it sounds like digging trenches and laying 80mmm to 100mm flexible perforated pipe leading to the soakaway would be the solution. On the top terrace a shed has been put in place on the righthand side where it is wettest. Would this have to be moved or can the drain be dug and run alongside the shed ie 1.5m in from the boundary wall? ...

> Job description: We need advice on dealing with a flooded garden. We have heavy clay soil and believe there may be underground springs in the area. We have had minor problems with flooding in the past but not as bad as this. We built a summer house on a concrete base 2 years ago and at the time dug a soak away. It was 1.5m deep and it filled up with water which stayed. The water had to be taken out by bucket after a week. Our garden backs on to neighbours gardens and they have also built sheds etc. over recent years. We note that the area was originally the pond for a farm. The flooding is getting steadily worse, despite a period of no or very little rain. A number of trees and shrubs have died although others look spectacular this year! The garden slopes gently towards the right and the flooding is at the bottom of the garden. Any advice would be most grateful received. Em ...
